JaZZ: Jam…Zpace Ztation Workshop, Part 2

As June marks Black Music Month, we might find ourselves asking, “how Queens has contributed to the culture?” In this active workshop inspired by “The Queens Jazz Trail” illustrated map, we get an answer. We’ll be going on a tour through Addisleigh Park and Linden Boulevard, where several Jazz, Hip-Hop, and Pop music legends lived in Southeast Queens. We will also be discussing how community and proximity can impact the formation of sound and music, among other prompts throughout the tour. This workshop will be led by Sherese Francis, an Alkymist of the I-Magination who expresses herself through poetry, interdisciplinary arts, workshop facilitation, editing, and literary curation. Her work takes inspiration from her Afro-Caribbean heritage (Barbados and Dominica), and her studies in Afrofuturism and Black Speculative Arts, mythology, and etymology.
