Tens of thousands of New Yorkers rely on public libraries every day -- for books, technology, programs, welcoming spaces and so much more.
We are grateful to the mayor for permanently restoring funding for Queens Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library and The New York Public Library in the Fiscal Year 2027 executive budget, and to the City Council for their relentless advocacy towards this goal. This investment is an important first step in ensuring proper, sustained investment in NYC’s Libraries and recognizes the vital role libraries play in the lives of all New Yorkers.
Still, libraries need increased funding as we face rising costs and demand for our services and resources. New Yorkers have repeatedly made clear they want more support for libraries, and we hope our city leaders will provide libraries the additional funding needed to maintain robust services and modernize and improve our buildings.
We know that when New Yorkers speak up, elected leaders listen. Please take a moment to tell them libraries make our city stronger.
