Have Fun with Robots

Location: Whitestone
Registration: Not required

In partnership with NYC First, Whitestone Library brings robotics and coding to the community. Kids and teens (ages 9-16) will learn how to code and use LEGO EV3. By following simple directions, they will be able to code and control robots that walk, talk, drive, grab, and spin.
Participation is limited to 8. Registration is required and a minimum of 6 must be registered by January 22nd, 2019 for this program to be held.

What You Need to Know about Cancer and Being Your Healthiest and Happiest

Come learn key information about protecting your health from cancer and other illnesses, including facts and statistics about cancer, as well as who should be screened and when. We will also focus on strengthening our communication skills to encourage those we love who are at risk to pursue relevant health care. Participants will have a chance to ask licensed health professionals important health questions in an open and encouraging environment.

Claim Your Lost Money

New York State has custody of over $14 billion in unclaimed funds. Every day the Comptroller's Office returns approximately $1 million to owners; are you one of them? Representatives from the Office of the New York State Comptroller, Intergovernmental and Community Affairs Division, will provide information about the New York State Unclaimed Funds program and assist attendees in searching for and processing any unclaimed funds due to them.

We will review safety devices, equipment, and a home safety checklist that can help keep you and your loved ones safe and free from injury. Thank you for your interest in the Friends of the Library at Queens Library.

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
