This October, Queens Public Library is celebrating Banned Books Week (October 4-10) and the Freedom to Read, all month long!
You learned about our special programs, our booklists, and our Freedom to Read Trading Card and Special Edition Library Card.
Here are more ways you can enjoy and support the freedom to read.
Get Your Library Card — And You Could Have a Chance to Win an Amazon Gift Card!
Getting a library card is a powerful way to celebrate the freedom to read and explore the joy of books, with no censorship or restrictions.
During Banned Books Week (October 4-10), sign up for a library card in person at QPL and you will be entered into a drawing for the chance to win a $50 Amazon gift card!
Visit our QPL locations to learn more and get your library card.
Twenty winners will be randomly selected from new library card applications. Gift cards donated by Amazon.
Kids & Teens: Vote As If Your Favorite Book Depends On It!
It’s voting season! This year, to highlight books that have been banned or challenged at schools and libraries across the United States, we are asking children and teens to vote for their favorite banned or challenged book.
Paper ballots and ballot boxes will be available at all QPL locations through Tuesday, November 3.
Even More Ways to Show Support
Visit the websites of the Banned Books Week Coalition, the American Library Association, and Unite Against Book Bans to find even more resources for supporting and protecting the freedom to read, during Banned Books Week and beyond.
If you have a special way that you're celebrating Banned Books Week and the freedom to read, we hope you'll share it with the staff at your local library, or with us on social media.
Finally, be sure to USE your freedom to read, all the time: borrow banned and challenged books from the Library!
