Technology Trainer


The Job and Business Academy (JBA) Technology Trainer will provide extensive high-quality technology training and customer service to library users through workshops and individual assistance at Queens Library's Adult Learning Center locations. Trainings and workshops will be conducted at the Central, Elmhurst, Flushing, Jackson Heights, Long Island City, Peninsula and Rochdale Village Adult Learning Center sites.

  • Uses established technology training curriculum to teach workshops.
  • Plans and implements classroom training, electronic learning and hands on labs.
  • Develops and implements new technology training services to address community needs.
  • Develops and implements exercises/tests to evaluate participants' knowledge of the material presented.
  • Provides customers with direct training and assistance on beginner to advanced technology topics.
  • Conducts computer training needs assessments and assesses customers' computer skills using JobMap and other tools.
  • Instructs customers in the use of the library's online training services.
  • Maintains and updates technical knowledge on a regular basis.
  • Distributes and collects workshop evaluation cards for every workshop taught.
  • Ensures operation of JBA equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Using the established job search and technology training curricula as a guide, provides customers with training and individual assistance to prepare them for a successful job search particularly using online applications and other digital tools.
  • Tracks customer attendance in all services using provided tools.
  • Prepares regular reports according to specifications set by supervisor.
  • Participates in outreach activities with special attention paid to continuously developing and refining the technology training services of JBA.
  • Performs other duties as required.


  • High School Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma, or High School Equivalency required.  College Degree preferred.
  • At least one year of experience with training or teaching. Technology training preferred.
  • Ability to provide instruction for a variety of software applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office (primarily Word, Excel, PowerPoint), internet and email.
  • Excellent presentation skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills; Good networking and team building skills. Detail oriented, flexible and a self-starter.
  • Basic knowledge of human services and serving a diverse population.
  • Good organization and administrative skills including experience with tracking program attendance and preparing reports.
