Collections include: biography, civil service test guides, citizenship & immigration, law, periodicals & newspapers, and the Carter G. Woodson Collection.
Vast and diverse collection of circulating individual biographies and autobiographies; collective biographies; and genealogical resources. The reference collection includes biographical directories, dictionaries, almanacs, and encyclopedias
The Carter G. Woodson Collection includes the African-American experience, emphasizing the history of slavery and its impact on African-American life; collected biographies; and subject bibliographies. Contemporary material in the collection focuses on the civil rights movement.
Links to Civil Service websites, publishers, and bookstores, as well as access to a growing collection of over 500 Civil Service Study Guides. In addition to the circulating collection, reference copies are available at the Central Library for most of the titles.
A core collection of Foundation Center publications, databases, supplementary materials, and services for people who are seeking grants for non-profit organizations or for themselves.
The center offers a variety of services for people who are unemployed, underemployed or searching for a direction. There are books, periodicals, and newspapers arranged for easy selection.
The Law collection features statutes, case law, digests, agency regulations at the New York City, State, and Federal level and legal materials on miscellaneous subjects.
Periodicals & Newspapers
The division collects the four major New York daily newspapers (Daily News, New York Post, New York Times and Newsday) along with other local, national, and special interest newspapers. Back issues of the following newspapers are on microfilm: Daily News (1950-present); New York Times (1851-present)
An extensive collection of Test Guides for high school, general education, college, military, and teaching. Access selected practice tests on The Learning Express Library, found in “Databases” under “Articles & Databases.”
Travel & Map Collections
Collections encompass thousands of travel guides and hundreds of circulating maps for countries, U.S. cities, and regions. The reference collection includes geographical, state, historical, and commercial atlases.
