Volunteer Opportunities:

Minors (14 and older) are welcomed to apply year-round for volunteer positions with Queens Public Library.  New York State law mandates that youth under 14 are not allowed to volunteer unless under the direct supervision of a parent or guardian.

STACKS ASSISTANT

LOCATIONS:  Multiple branches

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Stacks Assistants help ensure the quality and delivery of after-school enrichment activities and homework help throughout the school year.  The Stacks Assistant serves as a mentor/positive role model. 

Schedule:  3:00pm – 6:00pm; 15 hours per week Monday-Friday during the school year.  The rate of pay for this position is $15.00 per hour.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school students age 16 and older in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 85.  Prior experience working with children and ability to converse in another language is preferred.

STACKS LEADER

LOCATION: Multiple Locations

Children Librarian, Multiple Positions

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Stacks Leaders help ensure the quality and delivery of after-school enrichment activities and homework help throughout the school year.  Plans and facilitates purposeful and engaging activities and group learning projects.  Helps design and implement enriching and age appropriate learning projects including short and long term projects.  Helps children learn how to use the library on their own.  Provides assistance with homework and encourages academic progress. 

Schedule:  3:00pm – 6:00pm; 16 hours per week Monday-Friday during the school year.  The rate of pay for this position is $17 per hour.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or equivalency diploma and prior experience working with children required.  BA preferred.  Must have interest and experience in creating interactive and educational/artistic activities.  Must have interest and experience in youth development, academic enrichment, and arts.  Ability to work as part of a team.  Must have an ability to communicate effectively and respectfully, both verbally and in writing, with a broad range of people.  Must be flexible and have the ability to adapt to changing circumstances.  Fluency in a major language preferred.
