Children’s Library Discovery Center

The Children's Library Discovery Center opened in 2011. It includes hands-on interactive exhibits and learning labs with our very own Discovery Team to enable children ages 3-12 to find information and to inspire interest in books, reading, and learning.

Check out our Science Fair Handbook, a simple guide that explains the steps to successfully complete a science fair assignment. It includes explanations for each step, dozens of project ideas, and a list of helpful websites. Good luck with your project. Check out your local library for books on your chosen topic!

Another new tool available for children through the library is the PowerKids Life Science database. This great resource is specifically designed for learners in grades 3 to 6. PowerKids Life Science promotes digital literacy and 21st century learning skills while offering research, report, and homework help.

The library has two great new resources for children. Ideal for school or for year around learning. BookFlix and TrueFlix are two of our databases that help children with literacy. Check them out now!

CLDC Children's Chorus

Location: Central Library

Children ages 6 to 12 are invited to join the Children's Library Discovery Center's (CLDC) Children's Chorus. The Chorus will sing tradition chorus songs, along with a selection of todays hits. Central Teen Space Compass Explorer Program

Location: Central Library

Teens will be hosting a three month long Broadcast Journalism training program for Teens interested learning about developing the skill sets for a rewarding career. This is a great opportunity to enhance your resume and provide yourself with more scholarship opportunities.

Radio training participants will produce 10 episodes over a 3 month period and develop skills in editing, research and analysis of relevant issues.

Kickoff to Kindergarten

*Parents and caregivers can help children learn the key skills they need to succeed in school before they start kindergarten. During 8 weekly sessions, library staff and early childhood teachers will “teach” and “coach” parents and caregivers how to use books, educational games, and a variety of hands-on activities to help build language skills. For ages 3 - 5 and the child MUST turn 3 on or before 4/25/2017. Preregistration required and begins on 4/11/2017.*
