AANHPI: Chinese Theatre Works Presents Traditional Chinese Shadow Theater
Chinese shadow puppetry (“Pi Ying Xi”) has a history spanning 2,000 years. This theatrical tradition features intricately carved and colored animal-hide figures manipulated behind cloth screens to portray vivid scenes from history, literature, and folklore. In this program, audiences will explore the key elements of shadow play, get hands-on with puppets from around the world, and enjoy a traditional performance of two Chinese folk tales.
This program is funded in part by a grant from the Tiger Baron Foundation.
