Black History Month: Art Workshop with Art Studio NY: Portraits of Pride

Portraits of Pride: Inspired by Artist Kehinde Wiley invites young artists to create bold, meaningful portraits that celebrate identity and self-expression. Using graphite pencils, colored pencils, and markers, participants will learn portrait drawing techniques such as proportion, shading, pattern design, and thoughtful composition. Inspired by Kehinde Wiley’s powerful, regal portraits and richly patterned backgrounds, kids will draw themselves—or someone they admire—as royalty, exploring themes of confidence, representation, and empowerment while creating artwork that honors individuality and pride.
