English: “Hao Bang Ah!” is a common Chinese expression meaning “Great!” or “Well done!” Each year, Chinese Theatre Works celebrates the Lunar New Year with an original “budaixi” (traditional Chinese glove puppetry) production featuring the twelve animals of the Chinese Zodiac. This year’s show stars the Horse, who presides over a festive selection of lively puppet skits, traditional dances, and popular songs. The performance also brings to life well-known Chinese idioms that celebrate the wit and wisdom of the zodiac animals—including the classic story of “Sai Weng Shi Ma” (The old man Sai lost his horse), a tale about the hidden blessings in life’s unexpected turns. This program is funded by New York State Senator Michael Gianaris.
