Queens Memory

Picturing Flood Resilience: How to Document and Prepare for Flooding in NYC

New York Sea Grant and partners will lead a workshop on the types of flooding that face NYC and ways to document floods through photographs and stories. Participants will be encouraged to bring historical photographs of flooding that they would like to share and talk about. We will also examine photographs that have been shared with a public database through a participatory project called Flood Watch. Together we will learn how to share their own photographs through this platform, how to use these photos to tell a story about the changing conditions of flooding in NYC, and how to utilize these photographs toward their own community goals. We will share examples of the impact of local stories and photos of flooding that have come out of the Community Flood Fellowship Program. Additionally, resources on flood preparation, mitigation, and recovery will be available to attendees. Queens Memory will hold community scanning as part of this program.
