New York-based Chinese American artist Stone Chun Shi is interested in creating a balance between pop art and fine art. “Stone Oil Cube,” his innovative oil painting method, consists of tens of thousands of three-dimensional colored cubes made from premixed oil paint. Stone’s artistic subjects include Chinese and US currency; pop culture icons such as Marilyn Monroe and Miles Davis; Buddha; the Cross; and the Mona Lisa. With sculpted brushstrokes and exuberant color palettes, his work gives the impression of abstraction from up close and photo-realism from a distance.
The exhibit will run from Thursday, December 1-Tuesday, January 31 during Central Library opening hours.
