Queens Memory

Queens Name Explorer Edit-a-Thon

Join Wikimedia NYC, OpenStreetMap US, Urban Archive and the Queens Memory Project for this edit-a-thon focused on raising awareness of Queens' diverse and dynamic local heroes! The Queens Name Explorer (queenslib.org/explore) is a dataset of over 1000 people whose names grace the parks, streets, schools and other public spaces in the borough. This is a fun and accessible opportunity for people to learn about Queens history and hone their data skills! Edit-a-thon participants will learn how to create and edit entries in Wikidata, Wikipedia, and OpenStreetMap. Participants will also improve biographical articles for local leaders who have helped to shape the culture and civic life in their communities. Plus, there will be refreshments and prizes for everyone! This program is made possible by the generous support of NYC Council Member Julie Won.
