In 1970, Peter Hujar photographed Penny for Rags, a counterculture fashion magazine. They remained friends until his death in 1987. Michael Schulman is a staff writer at The New Yorker. His work has also appeared in The New York Times, Vanity Fair and other publications. His most recent book is “Oscar Wars: A History of Hollywood in Gold, Sweat, and Tears."
