In the News: Discussion Group for Adults

This group is an opportunity to address topical issues, exchange ideas, and enjoy the stimulation of new perspectives in a social group where people get to meet and discuss current happenings.
Since opinions, by definition, can never be right or wrong, all participants are encouraged to bring their own perspective and history. And they are welcome, in a non-judgmental framework, to express themselves on the issues confronting all thinking people. The discussion group is open to all.

Music and Motion Storytime

Collaborative Lego Challenge

Can you build a concert stage, a house, or a spaceship? If you love being creative and building with Legos, come on in and join our Lego Challenge Club, where we will collaborate and share ideas with kids at the Seaside Community Library. Teens "Be a Changemaker" Workshop

Changemakers are people who identify a problem, identify ways to solve the problem, and make a difference doing it. If you are a teen looking to make a difference, join the Broad Channel Community Library and other teens in the community for this six-week workshop that will bring you inspiration as well as real-life examples and strategies to be a part of a team that will make a change.

Recipe Swap and Cookbook Club

Location: Broad Channel

Join us at the Broad Channel Community Library to swap and share some of your oldest and dearest or new and exciting recipes with others. We will make copies of all the recipes brought in so that everyone will have new recipes each month, and at the end of the year we will compile all the recipes into an organized community recipe book. The recipe cookbook club will meet the 2nd Thursday of each month at 4pm.

Practice Kindness: A Guided Meditation

Location: Broad Channel
Registration: Not required

Guided meditation calms the mind and relaxes the body. Those who practice it regularly may experience reduced levels of stress and increased inner peace and well-being. In November and December, we will be focusing on the theme of kindness.
The instructor will help you to explore stress reduction techniques and discover ways to enhance all aspects of kindness towards yourself, as well as how that impacts the kindness we are able to extend towards others.

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
