Music and Movement Workshop for Seniors

Linda Choldenko leads a music and movement workshop for seniors 50+. Ms. Choldenko is professional dancer, director, and choreographer. She worked on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theatre, touring companies, and in Paris and Montreal. She has been a Teaching Artist with Lincoln Center for 20 years.

Drawing to See: A Creative Aging Program

Location: Hillcrest
Registration: Registration is not yet open for this program. Please check back closer to the program date.

This is an eight week program where participants will learn a variety of drawing techniques, deepening the experience. For beginners as well as students who wish to broaden their understanding of basic approaches to drawing. The ninth session will be a culminating event consisting of a gallery showing of participants' work. This is a Lifetime Arts Creative Aging program for adults age 50 and up. Classic Concert

Location: Hillcrest

Music critics have described I-Heung Lee's performance as graceful, thoughtful, and intelligent, touched with a unique style of artistic sophistication. Ms. Lee performs extensively in Asia as well as at Carnegie Hall and Alice Tully Hall in New York. Her repertoire includes works by Mozart, Franz Liszt, Maurice Ravel and Frederic Chopin.

October STEM Series

Managing Depression

Do you know a senior who seems sad all the time, lost interest in things they used to love, or is having trouble sleeping or loss of appetite? Feeling sad or blue from time to time is normal, but it should fade away after a few days. The Visiting Nurse Services of New York offers free screenings for participation in their new program called PEARLS. You must be 65 or older and live in Queens or Manhattan.

Working with Clay: A Workshop for Seniors

Location: Hillcrest

Broadway Gems

Natalie Zeitlin performs songs from Broadway, including fantastic songs like "All the Things You Are," "As Time Goes By," "I'll Be Seeing You," "He Touched Me," and more. Enjoy an afternoon of fun and music.

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
