Great American Songbook

The Great American Songbook also known as "American Standards", is the canon of the most important and influential American popular songs and jazz standards from the early 20th century. It comprises standards by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, and Irving Berlin, and also Jerome Kern, Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Richard Rodgers, and others. Bill Gati and Willa Bassen interpret some of the most popular songs in a contemporary style.

Drawing to See: A Creative Aging Program

This is an eight week program where participants will learn a variety of drawing techniques, deepening the experience. For beginners as well as students who wish to broaden their understanding of basic approaches to drawing. The ninth session will be a culminating event consisting of a gallery showing of participants' work. This is a Lifetime Arts Creative Aging program for adults age 50 and up. Thank you for your interest in the Friends of the Library at Queens Library.

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
