Traveling Shoes: Black Migrations - African Mud Cloth

Traditionally made with fabric and dyed using resources from the earth, the bògòlanfini or mud cloth is a Malian textile used in fashion, fine art, and decoration. Step into VR

Swim underwater, travel to a foreign country, jump off a skyscraper -- these are just some of the virtual reality experiences that will be available. While wearing the virtual reality headset, you will be able to "look around" the artificial world, move about in it, and interact with features or items that are depicted inside the headset.

Shape Up NYC: Ultimate Cardio for Adults

ShapeUp NYC instructor Gloria leads this total body workout that incorporates techniques such as kicks and punches that move to a rapid pace. This fitness class is designed to promote cardiovascular fitness, strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility using high energy and motivating music. Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers; bring a water bottle and towel. Space is limited. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Inspiring Women in Science with Alexa

Using Amazon Echo, a smart home device, learn about women in science simply by saying "Alexa, open STEM women and give me a woman in science." Women continue to face barriers in their participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields because STEM fields are predominantly male. The Aging Mastery 50+ Specialty Workshops will be held prior to the Aging Mastery ten-session workshop. The workshops will be led by experts in their field. A Balloon Show with Nick The Balloonatic

Location: Seaside
Registration: Not required

In this fun-filled balloon show, Nick The Balloonatic will interact with children as he sculpts balloons, laughs, and jokes, making everyone feel special. Crazy hats, animals, and your favorite characters will be raffled off for children to take home.

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
