Inspiring Women in Science with Alexa

Location: Seaside

Using Amazon Echo, a smart home device, learn about women in science simply by saying "Alexa, open STEM women and give me a woman in science." Women continue to face barriers in their participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields because STEM fields are predominantly male. The STEM women application seeks to close the gender gap by highlighting women doing great things in STEM and sharing their stories with the world. Instructor: Jay Dela Cruz

Shape Up NYC: Ultimate Cardio for Adults

ShapeUp NYC instructor Gloria leads this total body workout that incorporates techniques such as kicks and punches that move to a rapid pace. This fitness class is designed to promote cardiovascular fitness, strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility using high energy and motivating music. Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers; bring a water bottle and towel. Space is limited. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Seaside Time-lapse Film Festival

Location: Seaside
Registration: Not required

Seaside Time-lapse Film Festival showcases the best time-lapse films in the world! A timelapse video involves capturing lots of photos of a scene over a period of time. These images are then assembled to create seamless sped-up video footage. Time-lapse is the opposite of slow motion video, where time appears to be moving slower than normal. The sped-up nature of a time-lapse video can reveal movement that you’d barely notice with the naked eye.

A Balloon Show with Nick The Balloonatic

Location: Seaside

In this fun-filled balloon show, Nick The Balloonatic will interact with children as he sculpts balloons, laughs, and jokes, making everyone feel special. Crazy hats, animals, and your favorite characters will be raffled off for children to take home.


Thank you for your interest in the Friends of the Library at Queens Library.

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
