A Reading and Writing Workshop with Jackie de Dios

Join emerging writer Jackie de Dios, a native Woodside, Queens resident, for an afternoon reading and writing workshop. Ms. de Dios is a recipient of the 2017 Queens Arts Fund New Works Grant and will read an excerpt from her work "69-06 Roosevelt Avenue", a story that follows a Filipino immigrant family who settle in Woodside during the 1980s. A creative writing workshop will follow the reading. All are welcome and no writing experience necessary!

Titan Theatre Company presents a staged reading of Shakespeare's "Cymbeline". A evil stepmother, a wicked stepbrother, and a father, King Cymbeline, who is no help at all are giving the Princess a rough time. Creative Writing with "Citizen": Writing about Racism through Emotion and Image

Location: Woodside

In "Citizen: An American Lyric", Claudia Rankine explores the large and small ways racism impacts people of color every day of their lives. In this workshop, led by Nancy Agabian, all are welcome to write about the emotions that come from experiencing and witnessing racism, in and outside of ourselves, on the street, in our workplaces and schools, on TV, and in sports arenas. This program is part of the Big Read in partnership with St. John's University

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
