Kickoff to Kindergarten

Details: Customers are required to attend all sessions of this program. Registering for this session will reserve your spot for the entire program.

Parents and other caregivers can help children learn the skills they need to be successful before they start kindergarten. During eight weekly sessions, library staff will show parents, caregivers, and children how to use games, hands-on activities, and stories that help build the most important language and social skills. Children will be able to keep the games and stories and use them again at home. This program is for children ages 3-5 and their parents/caregivers.

ShapeUp NYC: Total Body Conditioning Class for Adults

Location: Sunnyside
Registration: Not required

ShapeUp NYC instructor Zarina leads this fitness class designed to assist with your daily activities, from lifting shopping bags to climbing the stairs and pushing the carts. Using your own bodyweight, we will incorporate moves like squats and lunges that will build muscle, gain strength, and burn calories. Wear comfortable clothing, and bring a towel and water bottle. Space is limited. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bring Your Story: An Introduction to Samba: Music, Dance, and Culture by Samba New York!

Ethnomusicologist/percussionist Philip Galinsky shares some interesting facts about the origins of samba, its instruments, and rhythms. Also included in the program will be a live samba dance demonstration along with a short samba dance lesson!

Korean for Beginners II

I Just Had a Baby! Now What?

This talk will address what to expect during different stages of the postpartum period. Some common issues facing postpartum mothers, such as breastfeeding, postpartum blues and depression, and physiologic changes experienced by mothers, will be addressed. Free Writing Classes: Get Published by Embracing Rejection

Is rejection getting you down? On August 5, identify your fears, name your dreams,and engage in generative writing. On August 12, reframe the submission process and be empowered. Writer Kim Liao leads these immediately useful sessions where writers of all genres can attend one or both classes that will help you get published and get your writing out in the world. Hip and Knee Pain

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
