Korean for Beginners II

This class offers additional daily conversational skills and more vocabulary. This class also covers Korean grammar and sentence patterns with a solid foundation of four aspects of language: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Completion of Korean for Beginners I is not required.

Creative Aging: Intermediate Drawing

Location: Sunnyside
Registration: Online or by phone
Availability: 3 openings

This nine-week course for adults 50+ will focus on learning two systems: perspective and proportions for portraiture. We will use a variety of dry and wet drawing materials. The first several sessions will review processes and ideas from the "Drawing to See" course. We will work on self-portraits as well as portraits of participants in the course. Space is limited. ShapeUp NYC: Total Body Conditioning Class for Adults

ShapeUp NYC instructor Zarina leads this fitness class designed to assist with your daily activities, from lifting shopping bags to climbing the stairs and pushing the carts. Using your own bodyweight, we will incorporate moves like squats and lunges that will build muscle, gain strength, and burn calories. Wear comfortable clothing, and bring a towel and water bottle. Space is limited. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Kickoff to Kindergarten

Location: Sunnyside
Registration: Registration is not yet open for this program. Please check back closer to the program date.
Details: Customers are required to attend all sessions of this program. Registering for this session will reserve your spot for the entire program.

Parents and other caregivers can help children learn the skills they need to be successful before they start kindergarten. During eight weekly sessions, library staff will show parents, caregivers, and children how to use games, hands-on activities, and stories that help build the most important language and social skills. Children will be able to keep the games and stories and use them again at home. This program is for children ages 3-5 and their parents/caregivers.

Celebrate Asian Pacific Heritage Month: Learn How to Make: Korean Tea Cookies [Da-shik]

Get a taste for Korea with our Korean tea cookie making workshop. Participants will learn how to make Da-shik; wonderfully light and mildly sweet, they melt-in-your mouth. Dating all the way back to the 17th century, these cookies were served with traditional tea and enjoyed only by the nobility and royalty. Come join us in this tasty workshop! All equipment and materials will be provided.

Classic Comedies: "She Stoops to Conquer"

Join us for a staged reading by Titan Theatre Company of "She Stoops To Conquer" by Oliver Goldsmith. A rich country squire tries to arrange for his beautiful daughter Kate to marry the son of an aristocrat. Unfortunately, the young man is comfortable only with lower class women. Determined to catch him, Kate pretends to be a servant girl. A comedy of errors makes this stunning romantic farce one of the wittiest cross matches in the canon of Restoration/eighteenth century literature.
