Music from Santo Domingo with Berto Reyes and his Band!

Location: South Jamaica
Registration: Not required

Berto Reyes and his Band will perform traditional music, known as perico ripiao, on the güira, drum and accordion. They will also play merengue típico, a traditional Dominican merengue, and merenhouse, a blend of merengue with American hip-hop and rap, with the added sounds of sax, bass and conga. Come to learn about and enjoy Dominican music.

Storytelling with Ife-Gail Young; Stories of Empowerment

Incorporating songs, drumming and a guitar, Ife the Storyteller will entertain children with the story of Mama Rue which will be in a poetic form, narration style and rap.

ConnectED Library Internet HotSpots Lending Events

Location: South Jamaica
Registration: Not required

This Library program enables the families of eligible students to “check out” Internet service from the Library—absolutely free. The program is open to patrons who are at least 18 years old and have a child in a New York City public school, have no household Internet access at the time of sign-up and have a valid adult library card with no outstanding fines. To check out a HotSpot visit one of the participating community libraries. Limited number of devices. Conditions apply.

Sugar Skull Workshop with Margarita Larios [En Español é Inglés]

Use sugar to create your own edible skull, a traditional Day of the Dead treat in Mexico that can also be used as a Halloween prop. Materials are limited and available on a first come, first-served basis.

Lead poisoning and sources of lead

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
