ESOL Job Search Training

This program is geared towards high intermediate and advanced English language learners seeking to enter the job market. The curriculum is focused on helping students understand different types of marketable skills as well as develop vocabulary associated with these skills. The classes are also integrated with a technology component that prepares students for the 21st century workforce.

Case Management Services

Need assistance? Come see a case manager and learn what services you may qualify for! We offer information, help with employment, housing, healthcare, immigration, social services, education, and finances. We also refer to partner organizations for additional services.

CISTA Girls: Leading the Way to Save Our Planet

Compost Mania

This day is all about compost - how it's made and used. Find out why recycling food scraps and yard waste creates a more sustainable urban environment! Master composter James E. Bressant, Jr. guides you through the process and purpose of composting with an interactive presentation. Master composters are certified by the NYC Department of Sanitation in soil and decomposition science and sustaining green urban spaces. Registration not required.

Managing Depression

Location: Rochdale Village

PEARLS by Visiting Nurse Service of New York. Do you know of a senior who seems sad all the time, lost interest in things they used to love, or is having trouble sleeping or loss of appetite? Feeling sad or blue from time to time is normal, but it should fade away after a few days. The Visiting Nurse Services of New York offers free screenings for participation in their new program called PEARLS. You must be 65 or older and live in Queens or Manhattan.

Thank you for your interest in the Friends of the Library at Queens Library.

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Date Formed: May 10, 2002. Re-chartered on November 15, 2007

Current Board Members:

Significant Accomplishments: Through the Friends advocacy and community outreach efforts. Additional grants provided funds for the purchase of a copy machine, laptops, 27" TV, Herman Miller furniture et al. The Friends also support the library on the annual trips to Albany and City Hall. Also attend the Fight out against Crime night. 

Friends Fun Facts: Created, published, and sold a cookbook at an event with samples of cookbook entries. Also organized Annual Mothers'' and Fathers' Day Plant and Bake Sales
Tea Tasting and poetry reading events. Creation of a African American History Month book, Forgotten Black Heroes. Participated in Harlem Book Fair.
