Soulful Jazz

Enjoy a fusion of jazz and soul with the smooth velvety vocals and saxophone stylings of Maverick Gaither who puts a jazz spin on songs like "I’ll Be Around" (The Spinners), "Let’s Stay Together" (Al Green), and "Glow Of Love" (Luther Vandross) and puts a soulful twist on tunes from jazz greats John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Grover Washington, Jr., and Louis Armstrong.

Claim Your Lost Money

New York State has custody of over $14 billion in unclaimed funds. Every day the Comptroller's Office returns approximately $1 million to owners; are you one of them? Representatives from the Office of the New York State Comptroller, Intergovernmental and Community Affairs Division, will provide information about the New York State Unclaimed Funds program and assist attendees in searching for and processing any unclaimed funds due to them.

Medical Complications Associated with Obesity

Obesity is a serious concern because it is associated with poorer mental health outcomes, reduced quality of life, and all the leading causes of death in the U.S. and worldwide, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and some types of cancer. Come learn more about these relationships, but more importantly, ways that you might be able to be your healthiest self, and how you might keep your loved ones as healthy as possible. Drawing to See: A Creative Aging Program

This is a seven-week course where participants will learn a variety of drawing techniques, deepening the experience. It is for beginners as well as students who wish to broaden their understanding of basic approaches to drawing. Teaching artist Karen Fitzgerald leads the course. Let's Make Some Noise: Documentary: American Experience Stonewall Riots

When police raided the Stonewall Inn, a popular gay bar in the Greenwich Village section of New York City on June 28, 1969, the street erupted into violent protests that lasted for the next six days. The Stonewall riots, as they came to be known, marked a major turning point in the modern gay civil rights movement in the United States and around the world.

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
