Open Mic for Jokes for Belly Laugh Day!

Open mic is for all performers of jokes and riddles to take the mic for two minutes. Performers will sign up with the library staff with their joke or riddle and will be called up in a random order. Spectators are also welcome. What has a million stories but cannot tell them? Find out at the open mic.

Take Your Child to the Library Day (TYCLD) is an international initiative that encourages families everywhere to take their children to their local library. Traveling Shoes: Black Migrations- Documentary "Ralph Ellison: An American Journey"

"Ralph Ellison: An American Journey" explores the many ways one of our most important writers and thinkers grappled with the question: "What does it mean to be an American?" The film brilliantly presents the first scenes ever filmed from Ellison's landmark novel, "Invisible Man," as well as discussions of his never completed second novel, "Juneteenth." Wangari Maathai is the first environmentalist and African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. "Taking Root: The Vision of Wangari Maathai" tells the story of the Green Belt Movement of Kenya and presents Maathai's unstoppable and courageous thirty-year journey to protect the environment, defend human rights, and promote democracy. Navigating the Healthcare System

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
