Bring Your Story: Day of the Dead Tradition

Mexican-born artist Aurelia Fernandez will discuss ancient traditions surrounding the Day of the Dead altar and demonstrate the making of it. She will also teach attendees in this workshop how to make calaveras---clay versions of the elaborately decorated sugar skulls used in Mexico. • Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Significant Accomplishments:
Our Friends Group works with the library to provide books, materials, programs and more for one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Queens. We are excited to announce an exciting new reading series event. We are always looking more members!

Friends Fun Facts: The Richmond Hill Library was founded by the Twentieth Century Club on April 8, 1899. It became part of the Queens Borough Public Library in 1901. In 1905, the present Carnegie building was opened for service.
