Under “Blind Date with a Book”, we will also have a number of books on display that will be wrapped up so patrons will only find out what they are reading once they get home. Wellness Workshop: Coping with Insomnia

More than 10% of people in the United States suffer from chronic insomnia. Sleeplessness can result in ongoing fatigue, irritability, poor concentration and increased risk of serious illnesses. In this workshop, we will look at some common causes of sleeplessness, including physical tension, chronic pain, stress, and anxiety. We will learn and practice some sleep-enhancing thoughts and behaviors to help us get the peaceful rest we need. All are welcome.

Celebrate Lunar New Year by Learning Chinese Traditional Paper Cutting

Location: Pomonok

In this workshop, Master Ming Liang Lu and Sharlene Chou will demonstrate paper cutting, an ancient Chinese art form dating from the Han dynasty. Participants will learn how to make this year's Lunar New Year zodiac symbol, the dog as well as paper lanterns. Master Lu will make 3-D portraits of lucky winners. Supplies are limited to 40 people.

Thank you for your interest in the Friends of the Library at Queens Library.

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Significant Accomplishments: One of the most successful and fun events the Friends have sponsored was the jazz and wine reception for Assembly Member Nettie Mayersohn when she retired. The Assemblywoman was a stalwart support of the Friends and as such, was made an honorary lifetime Friends member. The Friends also support the library by manning tables and collecting signatures against budget cuts. One of our biggest community outreach event is the   Electhester Street Fair.

Friends Fun Facts: Our members are very talented and have coordinated a number of great programs, i.e. The Friends presented an Art Exhibit by the Black Artist Association of Long Island, Read to Me Jamboree for grand parents and an Alzheimer workshop.
