Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Visit!

Location: Peninsula

Join us for some fun programs with Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Programs will include: "Be the Solution to Plastic Pollution" and "What Lives in Jamaica Bay?" In this first, learn about the effect of marine debris in Jamaica Bay and beyond. See how long it takes different types of debris to decompose and more importantly how you can help be part of the solution! In the second, rangers set up a touch table of different plant and animal specimens that can be found in Jamaica Bay.

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Significant Accomplishments: Hosted three successful rummage sales, bake sales, snack bar sales, Anniversary Celebration parties, eat meet and greet parties, membership drives, and a Membership Thank You Luncheon party. Prior to Super Storm Sandy, the Friends had monthly Boards meetings and a very active community interaction. However, while Friends wait for the construction of their new library, they continue to remain committed in serving the Peninsula.

Friends Fun Facts: Currently have a total of 60 paid members, 10 of them are Supporting Members.
