Traveling Shoes: Black Migrations - Recreate Jacob Lawrence's Migration Series Panel

Location: North Hills

More than 75 years ago, Jacob Lawrence created The Migration Series, an epic narrative that through an ambitious 60-panel series portrays the Great Migration, the flight of over a million African Americans from the rural South to the industrial North. Lawrence's work continues to have powerful echoes. Come learn about this monumental work and get inspired by it, recreating the panel that you admire the most. Thank you for your interest in the Friends of the Library at Queens Library.

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
