New York Reads: "Drawdown: The Most Comprehensive Plan Ever Proposed to Reverse Global Warming"

Celebrate Earth Day and join us at events to discuss the ideas in the book and at documentary film screenings and conversations. On April 18 at 4pm join us for the film "A Fierce Green Fire" at Elmhurst; on April 22pm at 2:30pm come to the "Drawdown" book discussion at Elmhurst; join us on April 24 for a "Drawdown" book discussion at Seaside at 1:30pm and the film "Bag It" at 2:30pm.

Free Citizenship Classes

Location: Elmhurst
Registration: Registration is not yet open for this program. Please check back closer to the program date.
Details: Customers are required to attend all sessions of this program. Registering for this session will reserve your spot for the entire program.

Learn everything you need to know about American history, government, and culture to pass the citizenship exam. Participants must attend the entire 12-class series. Please arrive at 10 am sharp on Tuesday, April 2 to register in person at the Elmhurst Library/ ALC (first-come, first-served) or call 718-278-4303 to preregister in advance. Candidates must be green card holders. The first day of class is the registration day when they should bring a copy of their green card.

Coloring Therapy

Come and experience the latest trend in relaxation, adult coloring! Studies show coloring can have a calming effect on the adult mind and helps promote overall wellness. Founded in 1983, Mariachi Tapatio de Álvaro Paulino, under the direction of Puebla-born Mexican Álvaro Paulino, is considered one of the finest mariachi bands in New York City. The band's music includes “corridos,” a form of storytelling in song that is enjoyed by young and old.

Meditation Workshop

In this workshop, instructors will use sound in a guided meditation. Teens will learn the basis of meditation and its benefits to assist with stress.

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
