Every 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month, we'll be doing a Bring Your Own Device program for 1 hour where we'll try to answer your questions. We will also have some 1 on 1 time with you about your device. Time and space is limited!

Free Citizenship Classes

Location: Elmhurst
Registration: Not required

Learn everything you need to know about American history, government and culture to pass the citizenship exam. Register in-person at the library on Tuesday, January 16 at 10:00 AM or call 718-278-4303 to preregister in advance. Students should have a copy of their green card when they come to register.
Participants must attend the entire 12 week class series. Candidates must be Green Card holders. The first day of class is registration day; they should have a copy of their Green Card as well.

Coloring Therapy For Adults

Come and experience the latest trend in relaxation, Adult Coloring! Studies show coloring can have a calming effect on the adult mind and helps promote overall wellness. Come and color while also listening to relaxing music. Coloring pages from books designed especially for adults as well as colored pencils and crayons will be provided.

Save Money, E-File Your Taxes for Free

Location: Elmhurst
Registration: Not required

If your income is under $66,000, you qualify to receive free online tax return filing assistance. Volunteers from the New York State Tax Department will guide you through tax preparation software available on their website as you learn how to prepare and e-file your federal and state income tax returns at no cost. Volunteers will be available that speak English and Spanish.

Hao Bang-Ah, Dog!

Audiences will be introduced to traditional Chinese New Year customs and foods (red envelopes, fish and “nian gao”). They will also meet some of other animals of the Chinese zodiac (Tigers, Rabbits, Roosters, Horses, Sheep and Monkeys.) Sing-alongs, games, and a hands-on post-show demonstration will make the Chinese language and cultural experience accessible to even the youngest audience members!

Emergency Response: React Fast

Location: Elmhurst

Research has shown that bystanders or immediate responders with little or no medical training can become heroic lifesavers. If you know how to stop severe bleeding, it can make the difference between life and death for an injured person. Learn how to help save lives by acting quickly when uncontrolled bleeding injuries result from disasters like the Sandy Hook Shooting, Boston Marathon Bombing or even everyday accidents.

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
