Learn to Dance Soca!

Instructor Davin McLeod shares the history and movements of this masquerade dance, the "soul of Calypso" and "the power of movement," which is performed at the annual Caribbean Carnival. You do not need to know how to dance to participate, but you will certainly feel like a dancer when you leave!

Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and how the last community of enslaved Africans found out two years later. Circle of Transformation: Empowerment Circle

The Circle of Transformation brings women together to support each other. A healing space is created where women can discuss issues that impact their lives. In a safe environment, women can explore ways to self-develop and address issues that impede their personal development. Workshops will be available for visual art and writing poetry as means to process stress, pain, and facilitate healing.

Queens Artists and Non-Profit Organizations: Do You Need Funding?

Learn about the 2020 Queens Arts Fund Grant Program! The Queens Arts Fund (QAF) awards grants to Queens-based individual artists and non-profit organizations that are producing arts and cultural programming in visual, performing, literary, and folk arts disciplines. Program guidelines and the application process will be reviewed.

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:
• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.
As a Friend, you will:
• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
