ConnectED Library Internet HotSpots Lending Events

Location: Cambria Heights
Registration: Not required

This Library program enables the families of eligible students to “check out” Internet service from the Library—absolutely free. The program is open to patrons who are at least 18 years old and have a child in a New York City public school, have no household Internet access at the time of sign-up and have a valid adult library card with no outstanding fines. To check out a HotSpot visit one of the participating community libraries. Limited number of devices. Conditions apply.

Sculpture

A Creative Aging Course: Join us to explore contemporary figurative sculpture. Participants will look at contemporary work, and design their own sculpture. We will build it using cardboard forms and adding a plaster skin to the constructed framework. Final pieces will be painted. No experience necessary; materials will be provided. The Empowered Gardener Series: Final Harvest

Entwined Destinies

Location: Cambria Heights

The historic relationships in both North and South America between the Indigenous People and the Africans who arrived to this land is complex. Through oral discussions, visual media, traditional folklore (dance, drumming), historical objects and the exploration of customs seen through the prisms of both African and Native American perspectives, we will shed a bit of light on their intersection and the endurance of these relationships even until today.

We will prepare our gardens for planting. Sunny or shady yards, which plants go where? We will learn how to start the germination process and how to acclimatize plants that are non-indigenous to our hardiness zone.

As a Friend, you will:
• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
