My Baby and Me

Babies age 6 months to 2 years old and their accompanying grown-up can enjoy stories, music, nursery rhymes, toys, and peer interaction! Families will have the opportunity to connect with each other for support and resources.

Baisley STEM Makerspace: Robotics

Location: Baisley Park
Registration: Not required

Join us at the Baisley Park Library for an ongoing series of robotic workshops. Children ages 9+ will be divided into groups to create, code, and command their own robot! Children will have the opportunity to be chosen to participate in a city-wide competition. Students must be able to attend all sessions. Children will meet twice a week beginning in January, and once a week beginning in February. This program will run into mid-May. Call 718-529-1590 for more information and to register!

Weekend Crafts: Color Your Own Beach Ball

Location: Baisley Park

It's cold outside! Children ages 5-12 can take an imagination vacation to a warm place, with our color your own beach ball craft! Children will discuss the places they would like to visit for a vacation and color their beach balls. Limited supplies and materials; please arrive early. Children under 8 years of age must be accompanied by a grown-up.

Traveling Shoes: Black Migrations – Putting my traveling shoes on and off I go on..?

Kids ages 6-12 are invited to create the vehicle that will take them to their next traveling adventure: Car or spaceship? Boat or flying dragon? 3D Origami

In this program, origami and paper engineering techniques are used to make different types of three-dimensional geometric shapes such as a pentagon bowl and rectangular prisms which can be used to store things. This program is for ages 6-12.

What Makes a Strawberry Grow, Smell, and Taste the Way it Does? DNA!

Beth Tuck, from Genspace, teaches how to extra DNA from strawberries. For ages 10+ with their parent/guardian. Call Library to Preregister.

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Significant Accomplishments:
The Friends organized a wonderful “Wine and Cheese Fundraiser and Membership Drive” to support Buy-A-Book program and supported this year’s rally at Baisley Park to save libraries.

The Friends was formed out of the Baisley Park Civic Association.
