Zumba: Latin Dance Fitness

Broken Heart Week: Shakespeare's "Othello": A Staged Reading by Titan Theatre Company

The Quilting Project

Location: Kew Gardens Hills

Professional teaching artist Karen Fitzgerald leads the class in sewing, planning and quilting processes to create a quilt project from small to large. Participants will learn about the different types of fabrics and approaches to designing a quilt. If you have never used a sewing machine, sewing lessons are included. Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Significant Accomplishments: The Friends has been existence for 15 years. They have provided funds to purchase books and furniture. They have hosted numerous programs for children and adults that include chair yoga, Museum of Modern Art slide presentations and lecture series.

Friends Fun Facts: The Friends continue to meet regularly in their temporary home while their brand new library is being built and scheduled to open in 2015.
