Zumba: Latin Dance Fitness

Tabletop Gaming: Project Powerpunk

Join us at Kew Gardens Hills for our first tabletop role playing game campaign! Project Powerpunk is a cyberpunk adventure game currently in beta testing and we'll be among the first players. Ages 14+ are welcome to join us in exploring this exciting new world. Registration is not required, but space is limited. You are encouraged to attend all sessions as existing players will be admitted first. Please note the first two sessions begin at 6pm and the following at 5pm.

Botanical Watercolor Painting

This is a five-session sequential Creative Aging course led by Teaching Artist Karen Fitzgerald. Learn to tone fruit, vegetables, leaves, and branches. Focus on concepts of light source, value, and shading to create form. Learn about brushes and techniques to create different leaf and flower forms. Registration required. What You Need to Know about Cancer and Being Your Healthiest and Happiest

Location: Kew Gardens Hills
Registration: Not required

Come learn key information about protecting your health from cancer and other illnesses, including facts and statistics about cancer, as well as who should be screened and when. We will also focus on strengthening our communication skills to encourage those we love who are at risk to pursue relevant health care. Participants will have a chance to ask licensed health professionals important health questions in an open and encouraging environment.

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Significant Accomplishments: The Friends has been existence for 15 years. They have provided funds to purchase books and furniture. They have hosted numerous programs for children and adults that include chair yoga, Museum of Modern Art slide presentations and lecture series.

Friends Fun Facts: The Friends continue to meet regularly in their temporary home while their brand new library is being built and scheduled to open in 2015.
