Periodontal Disease and Your Health

Location: Kew Gardens Hills
Registration: Not required

Periodontal disease, or gum disease, affects almost half of adults. This lecture will educate the public about what periodontal disease is and how it might be related to other conditions, like diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, to name a few. The dentist will also teach you some ways that you might be able to prevent or minimize the risk of periodontal disease. Come learn how you can improve your oral health!

Working with Clay: A Workshop

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Significant Accomplishments: The Friends has been existence for 15 years. They have provided funds to purchase books and furniture. They have hosted numerous programs for children and adults that include chair yoga, Museum of Modern Art slide presentations and lecture series.

Friends Fun Facts: The Friends continue to meet regularly in their temporary home while their brand new library is being built and scheduled to open in 2015.
