AARP Foundation Tax Counseling for Low Income Older Adults

Location: Kew Gardens Hills
Registration: Not required

IRS certified volunteers, sponsored by AARP Foundation, will complete and e-file your 2018 tax returns on a first-come, first-served basis. You must bring a NYS Driver's License or Non-Driver's ID; copy of the 2017 return (s); SS card or ITIN for everyone on your return; SSA-1099 form; all W-2s; 1099R, 1099 MISC or other 1099 forms; Healthcare forms; self-employment forms; 1098T from college; mortgage statement; and a cancelled check for refunds.

Cantor Irene Failenbogen is a singer-songwriter from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She is a crossover artist who has performed in operas, musical comedies, and theater. She was trained as a Hazzan in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and leads liturgical services for Rosh HaShanah, Yom Kippur, and Shabbat. Celebrate Jewish culture in English, Hebrew, Ladino, and Yiddish.

What You Need to Know about Cancer and Being Your Healthiest and Happiest

Location: Kew Gardens Hills

Come learn key information about protecting your health from cancer and other illnesses, including facts and statistics about cancer, as well as who should be screened and when. We will also focus on strengthening our communication skills to encourage those we love who are at risk to pursue relevant health care. Participants will have a chance to ask licensed health professionals important health questions in an open and encouraging environment.

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Significant Accomplishments: The Friends has been existence for 15 years. They have provided funds to purchase books and furniture. They have hosted numerous programs for children and adults that include chair yoga, Museum of Modern Art slide presentations and lecture series.

Friends Fun Facts: The Friends continue to meet regularly in their temporary home while their brand new library is being built and scheduled to open in 2015.
