Shape Up NYC: Cardio Dance Fitness for Adults

ShapeUp NYC instructor Nora leads this fitness class that uses easy-to-follow dance steps to increase cardio fitness and mobility and to tone the body. Space is limited. Bring a bottle of water and wear comfortable clothing. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Ridgewood Photo Collection

Location: Ridgewood

The Friends of the Ridgewood Library and the Queens Memory Project are working together to gather rare images of Ridgewood to add to the library’s digital archives. Bring your photos from home on one of the drop-in dates and volunteers will help you record all the information about them. Photos will be sent off to the digitization lab to be scanned and saved to a flash drive for you to keep! You will be notified once your images are back at the Ridgewood Library for pickup.

Friends of Ridgewood Library Monthly Book Sale

Join us for the Friends of Ridgewood Library Monthly Book Sale in the Library Garden. A huge selection of books and media are available for purchase (CASH ONLY). All proceeds go directly to Ridgewood Library to purchase books and media and fund programs for all ages. In case of inclement weather, the Book Sale will be held in the Library.

Ridgewood Tenants Union

Location: Ridgewood

The Ridgewood tenants' assembly meets to grow tenant power in the neighborhood in the face of increasing displacement and gentrification. Tenants will come together to discuss the issues they are facing and start working together to create a plan of action. The Tenants Union meets at the library the first Saturday of each month.

Insomnia

Sleeplessness can result in ongoing fatigue, irritability, poor concentration, and increased risk of serious illnesses. We will look at common causes of sleeplessness, and learn and practice some sleep-enhancing thoughts and behaviors to help us get the peaceful rest we need.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Significant Accomplishments: Organize successful Annual Fun Days to raise awareness and funds for the Library. Secured $3,300 in donations from local banks to purchase reading Organized Bu-a-Tree Campaign and raised $3,000 to purchase children books. Recently received a sizeable award from the Queens Fellowship Grant Making Committee.

Friends Fun Facts: Created a pictorial history of the Ridgewood Library. Planted and maintained a perennial garden, winning the Molly Parnis dress Up Your Neighborhood Award in 1998.Participated in the local Myrtle Avenue Santa Parade.
