Shape Up NYC: High Intensity Interval Training for Adults

Location: Ridgewood

Instructor Erica leads this total body workout which works on muscle strength and endurance while keeping the heart rate up to burn calories and improve cardiovascular health. Please bring a yoga mat, a bottle of water and wear comfortable clothes. Space is limited. Participation is first-come, first-served.

Join us for Friends of Ridgewood Library Monthly Book Sale in the library garden. Proceeds will help purchase special items, such as new children's books, and fund programs for all ages. Bilingual Birdies presents Movin' to Music in Spanish

Location: Ridgewood

Bilingual Birdies presents adventures under the sea, a trip to discover fun arctic animals, and the celebration of an authentic Carnaval! This program is for children birth to age six with live music, movement, dance, and puppetry. Our goal is to encourage cross-cultural awareness. Space is limited. Preregistration is required.

Neighborhood Cats TNR Workshop

Are you ready to be part of the solution for feral and stray cats in your neighborhood? Our expert instructors will teach you best practices for Trap-Neuter-Return and colony management plus provide you with information on NYC resources. Attendees will become TNR certified, making them eligible for free and low cost services like spay/neuter, trap rentals, and expert assistance.

Financing Your Education Presented by NYS Department of Financial Services

This program is open to families and high school students. The subjects covered include
completion of the FAFSA, grants, scholarships (including the Excelsior Scholarship and Enhanced Tuition Awards), work study, and various types of loans. Bring your friends. This information will be helpful as you pursue secondary education.

Flamenco: A Three-Session Dance Workshop for Adults with Lisa Spraragen

Lisa Spraragen leads this dance class where participants will learn the basics of flamenco, from general movement and posture to arms and wrist movements and musical phrasing. The heelwork portion of class will not be extensive. Dance shoes are helpful, but not required.

Ridgewood Tenants Union

Location: Ridgewood

The Ridgewood tenants' assembly meets to grow tenant power in the neighborhood in the face of increasing displacement and gentrification. Tenants will come together to discuss the issues they are facing and start working together to create a plan of action. The Tenants Union meets at the library the first Saturday of each month.

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Significant Accomplishments: Organize successful Annual Fun Days to raise awareness and funds for the Library. Secured $3,300 in donations from local banks to purchase reading Organized Bu-a-Tree Campaign and raised $3,000 to purchase children books. Recently received a sizeable award from the Queens Fellowship Grant Making Committee.

Friends Fun Facts: Created a pictorial history of the Ridgewood Library. Planted and maintained a perennial garden, winning the Molly Parnis dress Up Your Neighborhood Award in 1998.Participated in the local Myrtle Avenue Santa Parade.
