In celebration of Lunar New Year, senior Chinese calligrapher Thomson Chou and his associates will hold a half-day exhibit and workshop to mark the beginning of the Year of the Dog. Thomson Chou
graduated from National Taiwan University and studied Chinese calligraphy for more than 60 years. He would like to introduce Chinese Traditional Calligraphy art and culture to the mainstream public.

NY Poem Arts Center presents: Lunar New Year Concert

New York Poem Arts Center will give a Tang poem singing and dancing presentation to ring out the year of the Rooster and ring in the year of the Dog. In its' 2 hour performance, the Center has prepared recitation and singing of the big ten Tang poems, both in Chinese and English. The Marimba expresses centuries of traditional Guatemalan music. The popular melodies, sentimental harmonies, and dance rhythms are the signature of Guatemala’s musical instrument with influences from African, Indian, and Creole roots of Central America’s colonial heritage. Come and enjoy the enchanting music of the past and present performed by the traditional Guatemalan music group Lira Huehueteca, directed by Osman Martinez.

Displaying the glory of traditional north Indian Kathak, the dancers also demonstrate the flexibility of its technique. Pairing Kathak with two south Indian dance styles - Mohini Attam from the state of Kerala, and Bharata Natyam from Tamil Nadu - the dancers illuminate the similarities and differences of these styles. Significant Accomplishments: Since the being chartered almost eight years ago, the Friends membership has grown to 100 current members.  Donated proceeds from the 2012 Holiday Christmas card sale to victims of Hurricane Sandy. The Friends p purchased 15 new headphones for our computer lab and flash drives for the Flushing Adult Learning Center.

Friends Fun Facts: The Friends also hosted a book fundraiser during a Kimche demonstration.
