Lai Yin Music Society & Lai Yin Chorus was founded by soprano Huichin Wang. With thirty years experience in performance and teaching, Ms. Wang has lead numerous well-known choruses in Taiwan. In New York, Lai Yin Chorus has performed many charity concerts at Carnegie Hall, Queens College LeFrak Concert Hall and Flushing Town Hall. Summer Tutoring and Skill Building

Local students from high schools including Stuyvesant, Francis Lewis, and Bronx HS of Science help children grades 2-5 strengthen math and ELA skills. Professor Chi Ying and Her Students: Glorious Voice from the Heart

Teen Actors Workshop

Details: Customers are required to attend all sessions of this program. If you wish to register, check availability for program date September 18, 2018
Availability: 5 openings

Volunteers will learn and refine acting techniques by engaging in fun activities and discussions from different schools of thought. Teens will read and/or perform on last day.

Program will run Tuesday afternoons 4:30-6pm and go from September 18 - November 6
The staged readings or performances will occur on November 6.

After completing the program volunteers will receive an official letter of volunteer credit stating their hours of services.

QEDC: Business Plan Competition

The Queens Economic Development Corporation’s Annual Queens StartUP! Business Plan Competition begins in September 2018. The competition gives entrepreneurs a chance to strengthen their business knowledge, learn about business trends, and gain insights into starting and growing a business while also introducing them to the vast resources available to them at Queens Library. QL International Resource Center presents: From Kabuki to Contemporary Japanese Dance

This program will present exquisitely beautiful and elegant Japanese classical dances from 17th century Kabuki to contemporary new works choreographed by Sachiyo Ito. To familiarize the audience with Kabuki, Ms. Ito will offer a demonstration of various styles of walk by characters in Kabuki plays and the use of stage props such as a dance fan.

Defining Hope Screening and Discussion

Reimagine End of Life Week is a city-wide exploration of big questions about life and death through creativity and conversation. As part of this event, End of Life Choices New York will present a screening and discussion of "Defining Hope," a documentary about weighing what matters most at the most fragile junctures in life. The screening with be followed by a panel discussion, including producers of the film and experts in hospice and palliative care.

Thank you for your interest in the Friends of the Library at Queens Library.

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.

Significant Accomplishments: The Friends regularly volunteer at the Flushing Festival and the Dragon Boat Festival. They also donate funds to the matched Buy-A-Book Campaign and have sponsored afternoon tea and raffle fundraiser. Since 2009, the Friends sponsor a six months Mandarin Chinese Language program. And they bought a wall banner celebrating Black History month.

Friends Fun Facts: The Friends water the many plants inside the library on a weekly basis and do season plant care and landscaping on plaza of the library. In 2012 attended the Mayor’s Lunar New Year Reception at Gracie Mansion. They also keep the pantry fully stocked and clean.
