Classical Piano Concert with Pianist Hyojin Rhim

Hyojin has actively performed as a concert pianist and a chamber musician throughout the United States, Germany, Austria, and South Korea and won prizes at numerous international competitions. She has been featured in various recitals including concerts at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, Yamaha Salon, and Kaufman Music Center. Classical Dance Class with Bella Dance Art Center: The Butterfly Lovers

Based on the vocabulary of Chinese dance, the movements are smooth. Butterfly lovers' dance ideas come from well-known Chinese folklore. This drama reveals the lingering emotion, in the euphemistic and beautiful body language, of the character's psychological portrayal through a lot of classical dance movements, emphasizing them with high and low music. Talk with David W. Blight, Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author of "Frederick Douglass:Prophet of Freedom"

Join us for a presentation with the historian David W. Blight about his 2019 Pulitzer Prize-winning biography "Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom." Blight, a history professor and director of the Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University, will discuss what prompted him to pursue the story of the escaped slave who became one of the leading orators, abolitionists, and writers of his era. Books will be available for sale and signing.

Significant Accomplishments: The Friends regularly volunteer at the Flushing Festival and the Dragon Boat Festival. They also donate funds to the matched Buy-A-Book Campaign and have sponsored afternoon tea and raffle fundraiser. Since 2009, the Friends sponsor a six months Mandarin Chinese Language program. And they bought a wall banner celebrating Black History month.

Friends Fun Facts: The Friends water the many plants inside the library on a weekly basis and do season plant care and landscaping on plaza of the library. In 2012 attended the Mayor’s Lunar New Year Reception at Gracie Mansion. They also keep the pantry fully stocked and clean.
