Join us for free creative writing workshops that will bring out those powerful stories we have yet to share on the page. Poetry, prose, theater, rhymes, and everything in between — all created in a single room! This workshop is open to writers (Age 18+) of all genres, backgrounds, and experience levels. Community Service Club

Earn service hours for school while doing something good for your community or people in need. A different project each week: make cards for veterans and nursing home residents; craft holiday placemats for a soup kitchen; create cozy baby caps for hospitalized newborns; paint welcoming posters for the library--and more! Free Citizenship Classes

Location: Broadway
Registration: Not required

Learn everything you need to know about American history, government and culture to pass the citizenship exam. Register in person at the library on Wednesday, October 4 at 10:00 AM or call 718-278-4303 to preregister in advance.

Students should have a copy of their green card when they come to register. Participants must attend the entire 12 week class series. Candidates must be Green Card holders. The first day of class is Registration day when they should have a copy of their Green Card.

Get Published: Submitting Your Creative Writing to Literary Journals

Location: Broadway
Registration: Not required

Join local editors and the staff of Newtown Literary to find out the secrets of submitting to literary journals, including where to find journals to submit to, proofreading and preparing your work, crafting a bio and cover letter, and keeping track of your submissions. There will be a short panel discussion, then we will have a “submissions session,” where participants can set goals for how many pieces they want to submit in the remaining time and ask the panelists for individual help.

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
