It's Time for Kind: Kindness Club: Gift-Making Workshop Series

Location: Broadway

Spread some kindness! Children ages 6-12 will make gifts and cards for family, friends, and people in need of a little extra kindness. We will complete a different project each week, including friendship bracelets, fleece scarves, beaded jewelry, and greeting cards. Some of each week's creations will be shared with those in need. Free Citizenship Classes

Participants must attend the entire 12-class series. Please arrive at 10 am sharp on Thursday, October 4 to register in person at the library (first come, first served)
or call 718.278.4303 to register in advance. Candidates must be Green Card holders. The first day of class is the Registration day when they should bring a copy
of their Green Card. Students must be able to arrive at 10 am sharp on Thursdays to be granted admission to the class.

Annual Spelling Bee

Location: Broadway

Spellers in grades 3 through 8 are invited to compete in Broadway Library’s annual spelling bee. Three winners (Grade 3/ 4, Grade 5/ 6, and Grade 7/ 8) will participate in a Queens Library Spelling Bee at the Central Library this spring. Registration is required; sign up and get a word list in the children's room. Participants must attend one spelling bee practice session in order to compete. Practice sessions will be held Thurs., Jan. 17, and Thurs., Jan. 24, at 4 p.m.

Blood Sugar Basics: What You Should Know

Diabetes affects millions of Americans. Are you at risk? Join Dr. Yasmin Khan as she discusses steps you can take to reduce your risk for developing diabetes or how to take control of the disease and still live a full life. Dr. Khan is an assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and an internal medicine attending physician at Mount Sinai Queens. She specializes in endocrinology, diabetes, and bone disease. All are welcome!

We currently do not have a Friends group at this location, however, kindly contact the Friends Administrator (friends@queenslibrary.org) to find an active Friends group near you. 

Friends Chapters enrich community life around their community library. You will meet other people who care, and you will benefit your neighborhood by:

• Increasing community awareness and library use.
• Acting as liaisons between community and your library.
• Sponsoring programs that enhance the cultural life of your community.

As a Friend, you will:

• Educate your community about Queens Library’s vital services.
• Contribute your time towards programs and special activities at your library.
• Advocate for better library service to your own community through outreach, legislative contact, and fundraising.
