This Weekend at Queens Library

This weekend at Queens Library, celebrate Library Week with U.S. Representative Joseph Crowley and NYC Council Member Costa Constantinides; take an SAT workshop; learn about various musical instruments; see a Girl Scout puppet show; enjoy jazz and classical music; participate in an author discussion; and attend a lecture on Chinese culture. Celebrate Library Week with U.S. Representative Crowley and City Council Member Constantinides
U.S. Representative Joseph Crowley and New York City Council Member Costa Constantinides will join the celebration, featuring book readings, an art workshop for children and announcement of the winners of our essay-writing contest for children in grades 2-5. Light refreshments will be served. Preregistration is requested; please call 718-274-4500.

What’s That Sound?
At this fun-filled exploration of the instrument families in the modern classical orchestra, children age 5 and up and their parents or caregivers will learn about brass, string, percussion and woodwind instruments and how they make music.

Puppet Show
The Bronze Puppeteers of Junior Girl Scout Troop 4791, from Sacred Heart Church, are working to earn their bronze award by writing scripts based on favorite children’s books and bringing them to life with puppets. Each story the girls have chosen will teach a lesson to younger children ages 6-9..

Free Jazz
Pianist William Gati has performed throughout Queens in various venues, including Flushing Town Hall, Queens College, the Forest Park Bandshell and Queens Museum. Today, Mr. Gati will perform jazz piano music in the style of George Gershwin.
