“Keeping jazz alive in Louis and Lucille Armstrong’s neighborhoods” is one of the goals of this community library that is located within walking distance of the home (turned museum) of legendary musician Louis Armstrong and home to a “mini archive” of Armstrong memorabilia.
Special programming—available throughout the year—is also offered for all ages with the goal of celebrating jazz and Armstrong.
In addition, the Queens Library collection includes dozens of books about Armstrong, books by Armstrong, musical scores by various composers as performed by Armstrong, CDs featuring Armstrong and DVDs about the great Satchmo.
Here’s a bit of trivia for the history buffs: The first African-American Mayor of New York City, David Dinkins, filmed his last campaign commercial on this library’s premises. And in the commercial, he received a Queens Library card!
