Welcome to the Queens Library’s Young Adult Literacy Program

The Queens Library’s Young Adult Literacy Program (YALP) is part of the Queens Borough Public Library’s Adult Learner Program, and is primarily located at the Central Library Branch.  The Program provides resources to young adults in various capacities. We maintain an extensive collection of print and electronic media resources and a variety of web-based distant learning resources and Multimedia materials. The Young Adult Literacy Program also offers a slew of programs targeted to helping members of the community enhance their upward mobility aspirations as well as provide professional materials for teachers and tutors.

The Queens Library’s Young Adult Literacy Program serves as a resource and referral center, and provide young adult literacy participant with a wide array of instructional, vocational, recreational, family support, and social services. Instructional services include: ABE (Adult Basic Education) and Pre-HSE (High School Equivalency); as well as Job Readiness/Resume Preparation Workshops, Small Literacy / English Learning Groups, Computer-Assisted Instruction, Monthly Cultural Workshops & Center Outings, Independent Learning Materials, and an Extensive Book and Multimedia Collections.
