Pathway to U.S Citizenship: Becoming a U.S. Citizen and Building Your Civic Knowledge

Are you ready to become a U.S. citizen? Sessions are in English and include a workshop and basic civics education. 6/6: Are you ready to be a U.S. citizen?/Introduction to American history; 6/13: Required documents and more/Introduction to American government and politics; 6/20: Common barriers to naturalization/American culture and geography; 6/27: Naturalization interview and beyond/Review of 100 questions.

Cultural Programs

New Americans Program offers Cultural Arts programs celebrating the arts and literature of ethnic groups in Queens communities. Programs are presented in the Central Library and in community libraries. Offerings include music, dance, drama performances, bilingual poetry and storytelling. Cultural arts programs are bilingual in English and the language of the culture being showcased.


Coping Skills

New Americans Program offers Copings Skills workshops: lectures and workshops to help immigrants adjust to life in America presented in selected community libraries as well as the Central Library. Programs are presented in English and in the major immigrant languages of Queens by lawyers, teachers, counselors and other professionals. Topics presented include immigration law, becoming a citizen, tenants rights, career planning, starting a business, parenting, education and health.
