Beginners' Sewing Circle for Women (in Bengali)

Learn how to turn sewing skills into a career and earn money working for yourself. Lessons may include, but are not limited to, preparing and measuring fabrics, types of seams, finishing and pressing, and proper use of threads and tension for sewing. Basic math skills are required. More Musical Gems from the Yiddish Theater: A Concert and Lecture with Diane Cypkin

Because of the tremendous success of Dr. Diane Cypkin’s “Musical Salute to Molly Picon,” and her “In Words and Music: The Story of the Yiddish Theater,” Dr. Cypkin is offering more beautiful music from the Yiddish Theatre in this new program, featuring music made famous by Molly Picon, Aaron Lebedeff and Menashe Skulnik, as well as beloved Yiddish performers such as Itzik Feld, Yetta Zwerling, Menasha Oppenheim, Misha and Lucy Gehrman, Isa Kremer, and Seymour Rechzeit.

Cultural Programs

New Americans Program offers Cultural Arts programs celebrating the arts and literature of ethnic groups in Queens communities. Programs are presented in the Central Library and in community libraries. Offerings include music, dance, drama performances, bilingual poetry and storytelling. Cultural arts programs are bilingual in English and the language of the culture being showcased.


Coping Skills

New Americans Program offers Copings Skills workshops: lectures and workshops to help immigrants adjust to life in America presented in selected community libraries as well as the Central Library. Programs are presented in English and in the major immigrant languages of Queens by lawyers, teachers, counselors and other professionals. Topics presented include immigration law, becoming a citizen, tenants rights, career planning, starting a business, parenting, education and health.
