Learn how to create a document and work with tables. 9/13-Introduction to Microsoft Word; 9/20-Creating and Saving Documents; 9/27-Working with tables and printing. Customers should have basic computer skills, such as knowing how to use the keyboard, mouse and how to open and close applications. Customers are encouraged to attend all three classes. Preregistration is required in person at the Reference desk beginning Saturday, September 6 at 10:00AM.

Know Your Rights: Immigration Law

Topics include: options available to individuals with or without legal status in the United States, information on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and eligibility and requirements for obtaining citizenship.

Cultural Programs

New Americans Program offers Cultural Arts programs celebrating the arts and literature of ethnic groups in Queens communities. Programs are presented in the Central Library and in community libraries. Offerings include music, dance, drama performances, bilingual poetry and storytelling. Cultural arts programs are bilingual in English and the language of the culture being showcased.


Coping Skills

New Americans Program offers Copings Skills workshops: lectures and workshops to help immigrants adjust to life in America presented in selected community libraries as well as the Central Library. Programs are presented in English and in the major immigrant languages of Queens by lawyers, teachers, counselors and other professionals. Topics presented include immigration law, becoming a citizen, tenants rights, career planning, starting a business, parenting, education and health.
