It's easy! Tell Ms. Lucy about every book you read on your own reading level, either to yourself or someone else, and earn a star. The four readers with the most stars every Friday will win a cool prize. You must be age 12 or under to participate.

Travel Back in Time with Us!

Location: South Jamaica
Registration: Not required

We will travel back in time, through a computer presentation accompanied by period music, to meet famous African-American trail blazers. Refreshments will be served and families are encouraged to attend.

Cultural Programs

New Americans Program offers Cultural Arts programs celebrating the arts and literature of ethnic groups in Queens communities. Programs are presented in the Central Library and in community libraries. Offerings include music, dance, drama performances, bilingual poetry and storytelling. Cultural arts programs are bilingual in English and the language of the culture being showcased.


Coping Skills

New Americans Program offers Copings Skills workshops: lectures and workshops to help immigrants adjust to life in America presented in selected community libraries as well as the Central Library. Programs are presented in English and in the major immigrant languages of Queens by lawyers, teachers, counselors and other professionals. Topics presented include immigration law, becoming a citizen, tenants rights, career planning, starting a business, parenting, education and health.
