Computer Skills and Drills

Location: Rochdale Village

Children in grades 1-6 will learn basic computer skills, including searching for information on the Internet and exploring resources available on the Queens Library website. They will also receive a brief introduction to computer coding.

Beautiful Music, Beautiful Writing

Location: Rochdale Village
Registration: Not required

In the first half hour of this weekly one-hour session, children in grades 1-8 will practice their penmanship and cursive writing while listening to jazz and classical music. In the second half hour, we will learn simple phrases in Spanish, French and Japanese.

Celebrate African American History with Linda Humes

Location: Rochdale Village
Registration: Not required

This event, for ages 6-12, will include stories, songs and instrumental music from Africa, the Caribbean and the United States. A wide range of topics will be addressed, including self-esteem, ecology and cultural appreciation.

Most of our international language collections include books, periodicals, CDs, CD-ROMs and videos. Check out our romances, computer books, cookbooks, biographies, best-sellers, martial arts novels, parenting books and much more!

Find multicultural web sites, English classes, citizenship classes, immigrant-serving agencies, demographics and more.


Cultural Programs

New Americans Program offers Cultural Arts programs celebrating the arts and literature of ethnic groups in Queens communities. Programs are presented in the Central Library and in community libraries. Offerings include music, dance, drama performances, bilingual poetry and storytelling. Cultural arts programs are bilingual in English and the language of the culture being showcased.


Coping Skills

New Americans Program offers Copings Skills workshops: lectures and workshops to help immigrants adjust to life in America presented in selected community libraries as well as the Central Library. Programs are presented in English and in the major immigrant languages of Queens by lawyers, teachers, counselors and other professionals. Topics presented include immigration law, becoming a citizen, tenants rights, career planning, starting a business, parenting, education and health.
