Tin Throat Ensemble Presents New Music for a New Audience

The Tin Throat Ensemble excites audiences with intoxicating rhythms steeped in the traditions of folk music and improvisation. The ensemble consists of Alejandro Flórez, guitar and compositions; Dan Blake, saxophones; Ben Stapp, tuba; and Satoshi Takeishi, drums.




Making Jewelry by Quilling: A Crafts Workshop for Adults

Phyllis Ger teaches participants how to roll and glue special paper to form unique jewelry which can then be embellished with sequins or crystals if desired. Preregistration is required. Space is limited. Materials are provided.

Cultural Programs

New Americans Program offers Cultural Arts programs celebrating the arts and literature of ethnic groups in Queens communities. Programs are presented in the Central Library and in community libraries. Offerings include music, dance, drama performances, bilingual poetry and storytelling. Cultural arts programs are bilingual in English and the language of the culture being showcased.

Coping Skills

New Americans Program offers Copings Skills workshops: lectures and workshops to help immigrants adjust to life in America presented in selected community libraries as well as the Central Library. Programs are presented in English and in the major immigrant languages of Queens by lawyers, teachers, counselors and other professionals. Topics presented include immigration law, becoming a citizen, tenants rights, career planning, starting a business, parenting, education and health.
