Details: Customers are required to attend all sessions of this program. Registering for this session will reserve your spot for the entire program.

In this 9-session series, children ages 8-12 will work with a teaching artist to learn the basic elements of design in various media, including painting, collage and drawing. Students will be introduced to notable artists of the past and encouraged to explore their own distinctive styles. The course will conclude with a professional show at a contemporary art gallery. Space is limited and preregistration is required.

Kickoff to Kindergarten

Location: Forest Hills
Registration: Registration is not yet open for this program. Please check back closer to the program date.

In seven weekly sessions, using games, hands-on activities, and stories, parents and other caregivers will learn how to help children ages 3-5 develop the important language and social skills they need to be successful in school. Children will receive giveaways, including games and books, at each session. In-person preregistration, beginning October 1 at 11:30AM, is required. Space is limited.

Children ages 18-35 months hear stories, sing songs, do fingerplays and play movement games in this literacy-enriching program. Space is limited and in-person preregistration is mandatory. Preregistration starts October 1 at 11:30AM and closes when slots are filled. Come early: Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Nappy's Puppets Presents "Jack and the Beanstalk"

Registration: Not required

Jack is English in origin, but his energy, enthusiasm, optimism and can-do attitude have made him a true American icon. Follow his many adventures in this funny, fast-paced, action-packed show, based on a collection of Appalachian short stories and featuring hand-crafted shadow puppets.

Cultural Programs

New Americans Program offers Cultural Arts programs celebrating the arts and literature of ethnic groups in Queens communities. Programs are presented in the Central Library and in community libraries. Offerings include music, dance, drama performances, bilingual poetry and storytelling. Cultural arts programs are bilingual in English and the language of the culture being showcased.


Coping Skills

New Americans Program offers Copings Skills workshops: lectures and workshops to help immigrants adjust to life in America presented in selected community libraries as well as the Central Library. Programs are presented in English and in the major immigrant languages of Queens by lawyers, teachers, counselors and other professionals. Topics presented include immigration law, becoming a citizen, tenants rights, career planning, starting a business, parenting, education and health.
