Details: Customers are required to attend all sessions of this program. Registering for this session will reserve your spot for the entire program.

In this 9-session series, children ages 8-12 will work with a teaching artist to learn the basic elements of design in various media, including painting, collage and drawing. Students will be introduced to notable artists of the past and encouraged to explore their own distinctive styles. The course will conclude with a professional show at a contemporary art gallery. Space is limited and preregistration is required.

Cultural Programs

New Americans Program offers Cultural Arts programs celebrating the arts and literature of ethnic groups in Queens communities. Programs are presented in the Central Library and in community libraries. Offerings include music, dance, drama performances, bilingual poetry and storytelling. Cultural arts programs are bilingual in English and the language of the culture being showcased.


Coping Skills

New Americans Program offers Copings Skills workshops: lectures and workshops to help immigrants adjust to life in America presented in selected community libraries as well as the Central Library. Programs are presented in English and in the major immigrant languages of Queens by lawyers, teachers, counselors and other professionals. Topics presented include immigration law, becoming a citizen, tenants rights, career planning, starting a business, parenting, education and health.
